Winter Hiking Trails with Children at Zermatt Part 3

Rotenboden to Riffelberg offers some of the finest winter views in the Zermatt region. The trail leads below the shady Riffelhorn and back into dazzling sunshine, revealing a breath taking vista culminating in the Gornergrat. A fairy-tale adventure with views that seem to go on forever. This particular fairy tale begins at Rotenboden. The winter hiking trail drops left of the railway line, looping towards the Riffelhorn showing the start of a big adventure. Depending on time of day, the trail may pass through the peak’s cold blue shadow, and walkers experience for a moment just how much the sun warms the landscape, and how inhospitably cold it can be in the shade. In no time, though, the trail leads back into the sunshine and up a small rise. The wow factor is tremendous, the view from here of the Matterhorn against a piercing blue winter sky is indescribably beautiful. The trail then winds gently down to Riffelberg. Walkers with children can happily pull them along on a sledge. This easy walk starts from Rotenboden and ends at Riffelberg with total distance of 2.45 kilometers taking approximately an hour. The highest point on this trail is at 2814 meters with an ascent of 32 meters and descent of 268 meters. This trail allows you to have the magnificent mountain views with the Matterhorn, Weisshorn and other 4000 meter peaks. Not only adults but children will have tons of fun in the snow by pulling their sledges in the snowy wonderland.

Rundwanderung Tasch is a round walk that leads along the flat valley floor around Tasch. It is ideal for families, for relaxed strolls and with children and dogs. From the flat valley floor around Tasch there is a lovely view of the Breithorn and Klein Matterhorn. The round walk offers welcome variety and is ideal for families with children. This easy trail starts from Tasch and ends at Tasch with total distance of 4.41 kilometers taking approximately an hour and 10 minutes. The highest point on this trail is at 1458 meters with an ascent of 95 meters and descent of 95 meters. This trail offers a wonderful winter nordic walk. This beautiful winter trail is perfect for children since they can pull their sledge around. With the magnificent view of the Breithorn and Klein Matterhorn, not only adults but children will have a wonderful time playing in the snowy world. This trail is a nice way to relax and enjoy the fresh and cold alpine air.
