With all the skiing and hiking, sometimes it’s good to have a nice rest around the warm fire. At Zermatt there are many places where you can enjoy a nice campfire with the magnificent views of the alps. You can either swim in the lake with the fire going, or eat yummy smores with your family. Either way, campfire is one of the best way to have fun outdoors.
You can enjoy campfire at Leisee at Sunnegga. It is directly below the Sunnegga station with campfire location and a children’s playground. The lakeshore offers excellent sun bathing opportunities in the summer, with the possibility of a refreshing dip in the cool water of the mountain lake. Your children can play in the playground while adults have fun swimming in the lake and after, everyone can warm up around the campfire.
Wolli’s Adventure Land in Blauherd also offers a nice camping area. It is located on the left side of the Blauherdbahn. There is also a nice playground with climbing rock faces, a cable run and barbecue facilities for all the family. It is one of the best places for children to have fun with wonderful activities while adults enjoy the barbecue.
At Gletschergarten Dossen or Glacier Garden, they have a wonderful children’s playground, tables, benches, and a barbecue area complete with firewood available for families and hikers. It is absolutely a great place for families and friends to gather and bond. A little further up, in the larch and pine forest, information panels explain the phenomena of the glacier garden such as potholes, rock faces polished by the ice of the glacier that once existed, and a former soapstone quarry. You can have a fun time and a little educated time for everyone.
Swiss Family barbecue area in Gletschergarten or Glacier Garden is another nice place to have a barbecue. It is located close to the Glacier Garden near Furi. You can shop at Furi for foods and then go to the barbecue area to cook.
Schweigmatten is located on the Gletschergarten Weg or Glacier Garden Way between Furi and the GlacierGarden. After a nice walk, you can have a warm campfire with delicious smores and mouthwatering Swiss chocolate.
Tasch also has a nice beautiful barbecue spot. There are two in Tasch, and one is on the hiking trail towards Zermatt close to the Mettel bridge. The second is on the hiking trail towards Randa, about 1.4 kilometers after the Matterhorn Terminal Tasch.
Altermenzen barbecue and picnic area in Randa is an idyllic spot in the forest located in the woods close to the Altermenzen camping area in Randa. They have a brook that can be played in and even a Vita Parcours or fitness course which is located nearby.
Either with the marvelous view of Matterhorn shining on the lake, or being surrounded by the alpine forest, having a nice barbecue and a campfire is the way. You can have smores with Swiss chocolate or have delicious Swiss cheese with your barbecued goods!
