Trails Around Zermatt: Di-Do

Dirtscooter on Schwarzee is an amazing trail you can go through with dirtscooters. Dirtscooter riding in Zermatt is high thrills at the foot of the north face of the Matterhorn. These scooters with super fat tires are perfect for riding the lanes leading through Zermatt’s alpine pastures. This is absolute fun for all the family.  Riders collect their downhill scooters from the Matterhorn glacier paradise valley station. A ride in one of the Matterhorn Express gondolas leads up to Schwarzsee at 2583 meters. The trail leads past the waters of the idyllic Schwarzsee and down towards Stafelalp, which is a good spot for a first pit stop. The lanes are not completely smooth, which adds to some adventure to the ride. There are various restaurants along the way for everyone to fill their stomach with delicious meals before or after the ride along the trail. This exciting trail starts at Schwarzsee and ends at Zermatt with total  distance of 12.69 kilometers taking approximately an hour and 20 minutes. The highest point on this trail is at 2579 meters with an ascent of 245 meters and descent of 1189 meters.

The Dom hut is a mountain refuge run by the Swiss Alpine Club and equipped with ultra modern facilities. Its strategic location makes it a popular choice for ascents of seven of the highest mountains in the Alps. Before hikers can enjoy the welcoming, modern atmosphere of the Dom hut, they have to conquer a climb of 1635 vertical meters. This demands a high level of fitness, experience of the mountains and a good head for heights. Parts of the trail are exposed, requiring hikers to make use of metal rungs and safety cables. In the cabin, new arrivals find themselves in colorfully mixed company from mountaineers equipped with ropes, crampons and ice axes to mountain walkers who wish simply to enjoy the views in a comfortable setting. This trail has a breathtaking view of the Matterhorn on the horizon. This very challenging trail to Dom hut starts at Randa and ends at Dom hut with total distance of 5.32 kilometers taking approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes. The highest point on this trail is at 2930 meters with an ascent of 1639 meters and descent of 123 meters. If you love a challenging hiking or if you are a experienced mountaineer, this trail is something you can’t miss. Since Dom hut is the starting point for seven of the 4000 meter summits including Dom, which is at 4545 meters, you will meet many hikers and mountaineers up on this trail and at the hut.
