The highest cinema in Europe has been established at the Matterhorn glacier paradise at an altitude of 3,883 meters. The modern Cinema Lounge in the Breithorn tunnel offers pure movie pleasure. Film clips shimmer from the silver screen, showing a range of themes, including mountaineering, the alpine world, flora and fauna, and freeride skiing. Ideal for an excursion on a rainy day or to get in the mood for the panorama at 3883 m.
Guests will be able to enjoy the cinema without charge, and the experience is included in the Matterhorn glacier paradise ticket. At the dizzying height of 3.883 meters, a variety of films are being shown, some of which shows the impressive mountain world surrounding the Matterhorn.
The Breithorn tunnel has been decorated in various shades of blue to create the Cinema Lounge. Crystal elements set into the walls give visitors the feeling of being in the heart of the glittering rock.
From a large window in the side tunnel of the Peak Matterhorn glacier paradise, guests can also observe rope parties of mountaineers climb the snow and ice on the nearby Breithorn peak at 4.164 meters. The same area also houses a 3 meter high Matterhorn replica which serves as a climbing rock for children. The designers also plan to install so-called cocoons around August of 2014, which is colorful egg-shaped seats hanging from the ceiling with integrated speakers accommodating 16 guests. Lined with sheepskin rugs, this cinema seats will provide a special cuddly atmosphere. If you are planning to visit Zermatt after August, then you’re in for a treat. You can cuddle in those unique egg-shaped seats and enjoy the films.
A one-hour clip takes viewers on a tour of the diverse worlds that Zermatt has to offer. Zermatt Bergbahnen was actively supported by local film-makers who provided the individual film clips. The Cinema Lounge has footage from Jakob Julen, Vinzenz Imboden, Air Zermatt and the Swatch Skiers Cup. The lounge chill-out area is perfect for guests who do not feel like climbing to the observation deck in severe weather. Visitors with families will have an excellent time here by either climbing the rocks or by watching these wonderful and educational films that Zermatt is offering. The films that they are showing currently are “When heaven touches earth; Alpinism”, “Sightseeing flight Matterhorn; mountain scenery”, “Encounters in the Valais Alps; fauna”, “Swatch Skiers Cup”, and “Air Zermatt Image film”.
